Redecoration of a converted barn as a second home
Converted Barn Redecoration: The Cotswolds
Following the success of an Arts & Crafts project in North West London, our clients asked for our help with the redecoration and furnishing of their second home, a converted barn situated deep in the countryside near Wyck Rissington, The Cotswolds.
Having inherited sterile interiors created by a developer with little interest in the history of this rural property, the brief was to turn it into a warm second home for friends and family alike. Our work included designing the kitchen, new flooring, new decorative schemes, furniture & soft furnishings, as well as scouring the local markets, including Tetbury and further afield for some particularly special vintage and antique pieces.
The idea was to balance the property’s history with 21st century living so we embraced the low ceilings and old beams that spoke to the charm of country living and this centuries old Cotswold barn. Inspired by the joinery in classic countryside interiors, we designed the hand made kitchen to incorporate an electric AGA for ease of use and authenticity. We incorporated a simple worktable with a wooden top made from locally sourced oak. In here, the colour scheme was purposefully kept light with touches of earthy browns and dusty blues to create a bright and welcoming feel.
Warmth and deep colour with touches of pattern were used throughout the rest of the barn to add a warming and cocooning ambience. The decision to use two ottomans in the main living room and a lovely round one in the snug all added to the overall comfort of this lovely home.
